Conceptualized by Entrepreneur Chris Miles, founder and president of Miles Technologies, A Step Toward Hope first captivated South Jersey in June 2005. Begun as an annual gala to raise money for the paralysis cause, A Step Toward Hope thrived and became a Non-Profit Charitable Organization in early 2007. Mission Statement A Step Toward Hope’s mission is to provide assistance—financial and otherwise—to those suffering with paralysis and other neurological disorders in the southern New Jersey and surrounding areas, and to raise funds for research that aims to discover new treatments and cures for paralysis.
About A Step Toward Hope
As I have shared with many friends and colleagues, paralysis has touched my own family. My mother-in-law suffered a horrific accident in 2003, leaving her paralyzed from the neck down. She is no longer able to hold her grandchildren tightly in her arms, or chase them around the backyard. In a few seconds, her life was changed and our family was faced with unimaginable decisions, concerns and obstacles – as only those families touched by paralysis can truly comprehend. Today, although she has accomplished great strides in her recovery, she still faces daily challenges and sacrifices. Her paralysis has changed our family forever, and motivated me to use all of my resources to help raise funds to fuel research and quality of life improvements for those living with paralysis.
